GFOA Scholarship Spotlight: Alexander Rocher

Alexander received the Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship in 2021.

Alexander Rocher works as an accountant at the City of Plantation, Florida. Alexander has been with the City since 2018, and previously worked for Broward County Parks and Recreation. He holds a BA degree in Business Management from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, and is currently seeking an MS in Public Accounting from Nova Southeastern University. He plans to graduate in winter 2021.

Q & A with Alexander

Why did you choose this?

I am currently completing my Master’s Degree in Public Accounting at Nova Southeastern University, in South Florida. I chose this specific program because I knew that I wanted to remain in governmental accounting for the rest of my professional career.

What government are you working or hoping to work at in the future?

Currently I am working for the City of Plantation, in South Florida, as an Accountant. I would like to remain working in local government.

What are your future career goals?

I would like to utilize my degree and experience to someday become a Finance/Accounting Director or Comptroller of a City.

Which GFOA scholarship did you receive this year, and how will GFOA's scholarship help you achieve those goals?

I received the Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship with an award amount of $10,000. This scholarship will allow me to finish my program, which will afford me the additional training and knowledge needed to progress in my professional career.
